Claimed as a success and then revealed as a fraud: LONDON, Oct. 16. -- Gertrude Ederle still holds the world's record for women in the cross-Channel swim. Dr. Dorothy Cochrane Logan, known also as Mona McLennan, who asserted that she swam the English Channel Monday night in the record time of 13 hours 10 minutes, has confessed that she hoaxed the world to emphasize the need of supervision of future cross-Channel attempts, according to a story in this morning's News of the World: LONDON, Oct. 29. -- Indictable summonses charging an offense against the Perjury act were issued today against Dr. Dorothy Cochrane Logan, the chief figure in the recent sensational Channel swim hoax, and her trainer, Horace Carey.

There were 18 attempts in 1933. Only Sunny was successful. Two sisters - Annie, who was Northern Counties back stroke champion, and Betty, represented Manchester school girls.

Channel Swimmer Failed London, Aug. 12 - The first attempt to swim the English Channel this season failed today when Harry Luscombe, a partially crippled athlete from Devon, abandoned his attempt five miles off the French coast at 9:35 am due to the roughness of the sea.
