Philip swam the Channel a number of times; his records are: 1965 France to England in 14hrs 31 mins, 1967 England to France in 13 hrs  45 mins, 1968 England to France in 18 hrs 10 mins, 1969 England to France in 14 hrs 28 mins. 1965 & 1967 made him the youngest person to swim the Channel in both directions.

He had two unsuccessful swims; 1965 England to France, 12hrs 35mins, 1969 England to France 3hrs, 1min. In 1965 Philip set a new record for the 20 mile Weymouth to Lulworth Cove and return. In the Lulworth Cove to Weymouth Championship he finished second. Also in 1965 he competed in the 8 mile Torbay swim, he gained 8th place. He took 8th place in the 1966 Torbay swim. also in 1966 he competed in the first International Windermere Championship. He competed in the 1966 BLDSA two way Bala Championship.

Philip swam on the Canadian Professional circuit in 1971 & 1972. He competed in Lake St. John, Saguenay River, Chicoutimi to Bagotville and the La tuque 24hr swim in Quebec.
