Channel swimmer

Channel swimmer Tiraboschi in the sea off Shakespeare beach, Dover, about to land.

Tiraboschi was the first of the swimmers from France to England; his time was 16hrs 33mins, which was almost 5 hrs faster than any previous England to France swim. This then was to be known as the easy route and preferred by swimmers.

He received £1000 from the Daily Sketch, which he gave to the International Swimming Federation. He was received by Mussolini, the Italian Premier, who informed him that the King had appointed him a Knight of the order of the Crown of Italy. He also received a Gold Medal from the Channel Swimming Club.

Previously he had 2 unsuccessful, swims in 1921 & 1922.
