Channel Swimming, Swim Race 1980's; Dixon & Murphy

Ray had two successful Channel swims; Sept 5th 1973, England -France, time 10hrs 43mins and August 22nd 1978, England-France, time 10hrs43mins. It was the 4th International Race. Ray finished fourth.

Ray became a top Channel Pilot. He married swimmer Corrie Ebbelaar. She set a new English Channel Record of 10hrs 43mins in 1971. She coached three swimmers to channel world records; Richard Charlesworth, 1982 time 8hrs 52mins, Eng to France; Lyndon Dunsbee, 1984 time 8hrs 17mins, England to France; Richard Davey, 1988 time 8hrs 05mins, England to France.

She also had a hand in Alison Streeter’s early development.
