France to England. September 4th 1947 Start 10.00 am at Cap-Gris-Nez. Finish 2.46am. September 5th. Time for swim 14hrs 46 mins. The swim finished at Abbotts Cliffe. Carpio’s Trainer was Ted Temme, who accompanied Daniel Carpio on his swim.

Daniel Carpio was the first South American to swim the English Channel. The Channel Swimming Association was not reformed after the war until October 1949 so the swim was ratified independantly. At the time of the swim Carpio was 37 years of age. His feed consisted of Glucose, crushed grapes, and hot water.
