Death of 'The Last Survivor' of Webb's Swim

At the age of 17, then known as ‘Boy Baker’ he accompanied Captain Matthew Webb during his famous Channel swim (24-25 August 1875), often swimming alongside Captain Webb.

He came to be known as ‘The Last Survivor’ of the fourteen who witnessed the swim.
