  • We still have my grandfather’s bronze medal, currently in a frame on the wall, along with a dedication – presumably out of the original medal case, now long lost – that reads:
    “Presented to Allen Simpson Wauchope Watson who was one of the eleven occupants of the Boat which accompanied Burgess on his swim across the English Channel. September 5th – 6th 1911. (unreadable signature) 15 only struck”
