Gertrude Ederle gives up her attempt to swim the English Channel 18/8/1925

Gertrude Ederle the American girl swimmer gave up her attempt to swim the English Channel eight miles from the English Coast.

Miss Ederle exhausted in her rowboat after being taken from the water by Helmy, the Egyptian swimmer (in water) her trainer Jabez Wolffe and Mme. Jeanne Sion, a Frenchwoman who herself nearly succeeded in swimming the Channel a week ago.
