The Daily Mail 1951 Race Festival of Britain Year. Godfrey Chapman shown at Folkestone Pool

The sixth swimmer to finish the race, he completed the swim in a time of 12hrs 56 mins (13hrs 02 min, Channel Swimming Association).

He received a  trophy presented by General and Eva Peron for the first British man to complete the swim. His prize money from the Daily Mail was £250.
