Mareeh Hassan Hamad and John F. Moncrieff, the Mayor of Folkestone

Daily Mail Race 1951 Festival of Britain Year.  Mareeh Hassen Hammad of Egypt picking his race number at Folkestone Pool.

He won the Mens Race in a time of 12hrs 12mins and received a cheque and a Festival of Britain Trophy. Mr. Stuart Mclain, Managing Director of the Daily Mail, said in presenting the prizes: “I cannot think of any other sporting event in the World where the honour and glory of winning means so much more to the contestants than the actual prize”.
