Moored Vessel 'Early Morn' in Dover Harbour, Pop Burwill

Pop (Jack, christened John) Burwill on one of his vessels (boats), Early Morn, used to escort swimmers across the Channel. Pop (Jack / John) Burvill (Burwill) acted as a pilot on many Channel swimming escort and support boats.

Pop Burwell took swimmers from 1927; Harry Luscombe, attemted to swim from France to England in 1927. His swim was aborted after 8 hrs 45mins. Pop took swimmers in the Daily Mail International swim races of 1950/51 and the Billy Butlin Races from 1954.
