Mrs Kellingley's Dover to Deal swim
Newspaper clipping reads, “Aged 53, Swan 10 Miles. Fifty-three-year-old Mrs Ethel Kellingley, of Deal, heroine of the exciting sea rescue of a mad Alsatian last May, yesterday swam from Dover to Deal pier, going 10 1/4 miles in 2 3/4 hours. Mrs Kellingley (picture on left) is wife of Billy Kellingley, Brighton’s former swimming coach and trainer of successful Channel swimmers. On May 27 she plunged into the sea at Walmer and saved an Alsatian which had swum for miles, yelping and howling. She had to lasso it with a towel to get it ashore.”
