Phil Rising, President of BLDSA. France to England 1951, 15hrs 55mins and England to France 1952, 18 hrs 38mins.

Ned Barnie had three successful channel swims; 1950 France – England 14hrs 45min. Daily Mail swim 1951 England – France  19hrs 02mins.  1951 France – England 15hrs 01mins. He also had six unsuccessful swims 1952 to 1956. Two were two-way attempts, and four were Billy Butlin races.

Fred Oldman swam France to England 1955 14hrs 31mins. Fred entered the Butlin 1956 swim but was one of the 22 entrants who could not start. He later became a founder member of the B.L.D.S.A. and became its first Chairman. Behind Fred is Gerry Forsberg – swam from England to France in 1957 in a time of 13hrs 33mins. This was a new rcord.
