Jack 'Pop' Burwill, Ship Inspection

Pop Burwill on his boat at the Quayside, Dover checking quay wall and ropes. Pop (Jack / John) Burvill (Burwill) acted as a pilot on many Channel swimming escort and support boats.from 1927 to 1956. He piloted Florence Chadwick on two World Record swims in 1951 and 1955. Both swims ratified by the Channel Swimming Association Her fourth attempt. It was a planned two-way attempt.Florence became the first lady to swim the Channel in both directions.currently recognised as suchby the Channel Swimming Association. A Black and White photograph .
