Shirley May France

Shirley May France, age 17years, from the U.S.A,  August 8th 1950, pulled out 5 miles from England. Time 13hrs 33mins. This was her second attempt. The swimmer in the water helping her into the boat is John Temme, son of Ted Temme.

France had two unsuccessful swims, the first was in 1949, France to England, her time was 10hrs 30mins. She had 6 accompanying boats and 2 aeroplanes.

Her second swim was in 1950, and her time was 13hrs 33mins.
