Swimmers Mickman, Rising, Fenton and Roach

At the back is Philip Mickman. He made a  total of 7 attempts in total. He was successful on two swims; France – England 1949 23hrs 48mins and in 1952 from England – France, time 18hrs 44mins. He also made Five unsuccessfu attempts. From 1948 to 1952.

Front row, Phil Rising – swam the Channel in both directions. Phil was also the first Chairman of The British Long Distance Swimming Association.

Swam 1951 France to England, and in 1952 he swam England to France. Next to him is Gladstone Moorhouse (Mayor of Ossett)

Next is Eileen Fenton, succsesful in the First Daily Mail race she was the first Lady home. She also swam in the 1951 second Daily Mail swim but on her second attempt she was unsuccesful. 

Next is S. E. Bickle then Winnie Roach, from Ontario, Canada, She swam in the second Daily Mail swim. She was the second Lady. The last in the line is her father and trainer.
