Cap Gris Nez to Langdon Stairs 30 Sept 1929 – 21 April 2008 Has already swum the Channel in both directions. He was voted “The Marathon Swimmer of the 20th Century, 1953 he was first in the 29k River Seine race. In 1963 he won the 60 mile swim across Lake Michigan in a time of 35 hours. He was World Champion for 1964. 1965. and 1968. From 1953 to 1972 out of 68 top races he was only out of the top three on 12 occasions. He was a Graduate form Sandhurst Military Academy. Spoke 6 languages was a good pianist. He became a Colonel in the Egyptian Army.
