Duncan, Miss (Margaret) Peggy

Peggy Duncan, from Cape Town, was the first South African to swim the Channel, in a time of 16 hours and 17 minutes.

Miss Duncan was also the first woman to swim from Robben Island to Cape Town, a distance of 15 miles. She was then only 16 years of age.
