Samuel Wilson Greasley (Leicester)

A bootmaker from Leicester.

Long distance champion of the world. 1 mile Champion of England 3 years in succession.

Married 1886 to Emily Pettitt. One daughter, Louisa born 1887.

On July 24 1904 Greasley swam from Worthing to Brighton, 13 miles, in just under four and a half hours. Won the 4000 metre professional race at 1900 Olympics (on the programme but not a medal race)
