Hawke, Miss Ivy

Born Ivy Hawke (not ‘Hawkes’ as sometimes given) in Surbiton, Surrey, 12/04/1903, daughter of carpenter Charles Hawke. Her mother Emma ran the Spread Eagle Coffee Tavern in Surbiton. Married coal merchant Edward Crocker at Surbiton 1931. Died Kingston upon Thames 1970

At age 14 won the 1917 Thames Race and continued to dominate the ladies races in the Thames for years. She swam for the Surrey Ladies Swimming Club. She helped her mother run the Tavern and later became a swimming instructor and Ladies Superintendent at the local baths
