Morvan, Roger Le

Roger Le Morvan represented France in the Daily Mail International race in 1950.

He had held the French 400mtr and 1500mtre championships and was Champion of crossing of Paris and “Coup de Noel”.

In the 1950 swim he was second in a time of 11hr. 03mins. Roger was 26 years old, his pilot was S.T. Liddon, the support vessel was the ”Ocean King”. He landed at the South Foreland. The winner was Hassen Abd el Rehim, and the third swimmer another Egyptian swimmer, Mahri Hassan Hamad.

In the 1951″Festival of Britain” Daily Mail race, Roger Le Morvan entered and once more came second, this time to Mareeh Hassan Hamad who had been 3rd in 1950. Hamad finished in a time of 12hrs 12mins at Shakespeare Cliff. Roger Le Morvan landed at St. Margaret’s Bay in 12hrs 13mins. His pilot was W.Irons and the pilot vessel was “Spartan”. The winner of the 1950 race Hassen Abd el Rehim this time was third, in 12hrs 25mins.

Roger’s racing diet included beef steaks, chips, red wine and champagne. He weighed 90kgs and was 1.72 metre’s tall.
