In 1964 she made three unsuccessful attempts on the English Channel.  

She achieved a number of swims; they include Malibu to Santa Monica 18miles in 8 hours 13mins. She was the first woman to swim the Mackinac Straits, 16 miles. She also swam the Bosporus, the Dardanelles, The Black Sea and she was the first woman to swim the Messina Straights in Scicily, 13miles in 5 hours 20mins.
