Channel Swimming group on Folkestone Beach

Bill Bristow, Kendal Mellor, Sunny Lowry Philip Gollop, Ned Barnie.

Bill Bristow, swam the Channel in in 1959. He swam from France to England in a time of 18hrs 01 minutes.

Kendal Mellor. Swam the Channel in 1963. He swam from France to England, in a time of 16hours, 53 seconds.

Sunny Lowry, swam the Channel in 1933 from France to England, In a time of 15hours 41 minutes. It took until 1958 before it was finally recognised by the Channel Swimming Assocition.

Ned Barnie  had three successful swims. His first was in the first Daily Mail Swim in 1950. He came fifth in the race, his time was 14hrs 45mins.He then completed a solo swim in 1951, from England to France in a time of 19hrs 02mins. He then competed in the 1951 “Festival of Britain” race on August 16th of the same year. He finished 17th. His time was 15hrs 01mins. He then made six unsuccessful attempts from 1952 to 1956. In his last swim he was 59 years old.

Philip Golllop had 4 successful swims. France to England in 1965, his time was 14hrs 31mins. His next three were all England to France. 1967 his time was 13hrs 45mins, his next was 1968 time 18hrs 10 mins and   his last was 1969 time 14hrs 28mins Philip also made a number of unsuccessful swims.
